THREE MEN IN A BOAT … YOU, ME … HIM
If you like English humour in literature then THREE MEN IN A BOAT is for you; it’s hilarious. If you like a Biblical challenge and have a desire to “go deeper” then Luke 5;1-10 is where you could start. The chapter starts with Jesus having a “loan” of Simon’s boat for obvious reasons and then graciously directs the Owner to “launch out into the depths (deep)” where the fish are to be found.
From “loan” of a “thing”, an object to “Lord” of a “life”. From momentary expediency to extended experience, leading to discipleship and Apostleship.
It’s often the seemingly “small” things the passing words that capture hearts and fire the imagination, changing lives and securing souls for Time and Eternity. Simon Peter weakened with frustration and weariness could never have guessed that his whole Life and Eternal Future would change by a simple acquiescence to The Preacher’s request and further “request”, still a further “Request”, “Come follow Me and I will make you a fisher of men”
Your first encounter with Jesus may not seem significant but it becomes a Journey into Light and, ultimately, Glory if you continue with Him.
In the mind of Christ every encounter is significant and will always lead onward and upward. Letting Jesus into “the boat” is important enough, imploring Him to stay “in the boat” is paramount: “the boat” being all that pertains to our existence.
