LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY
There’s power in Prayer … it is a weapon … it is worship … it is worthy
The Disciples came to Jesus, some had been Disciples of John and had been taught how to pray by him. Didn’t they know how to pray, being taught by Rabbi’s in the synagogue … perhaps, or perhaps not … there’s such a difference from praying prayers (scripted prayers and truly praying)
Jesus was quick to give Divine Principles that cover every aspect of Prayer … Luke11; 1-28. He begins with the most vital aspect, and the foundation of all prayer … The Divine Relationship … “when you pray, say Our Father …”
Two things are important … “Our Father” … “ours” is a united relationship under the Fatherhood of God … that puts us all on the foundation of equality with fellow believers. God puts a high premium on the fellowship and family of believers … any schism in “the Body” grieves the Holy Ghost (Ephesians 4;17-32) Father denotes a relationship of intimacy, security, authority, constancy, liberty and union … and “likeness” .
The authority of the Believer is totally in line with our redemption and the regeneration of The Spirit whereby the Spirit of God within cries “ABBA, Father” Romans 8;16. The Book of Hebrews talks much about the authority of the Believer … Hebrews 10 where we can “come boldly” before the august, elevated, glorious Throne of Almighty God, our Father. Glimpses of this Divine Grace overwhelmed the Psalmist in Psalm 8.
The two most powerful aspects of our relationship with God is intimacy and authority … then, there is an important focus … location, location, location … “our Father which art in Heaven …” the distinction being your Father is supreme … certainly as a distinction between a “natural”, earthly father … with all that, that means.
No wonder Isaiah prophesies “My ways, thoughts are higher than yours …”. Our Heavenly Father is divine, powerful, eternal, holy and absolute in glory.
The next Blog will show a cautionary clause to prevent presumption … “hallowed be Your Name …”
