HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME
- REVERING THE NAME
- THE AUTHORITY OF THE NAME
- THE PROCLAIMING OF THE NAME
The Name … is to be hallowed or reverenced and esteemed … “Take not the Lord’s Name in vain” is a commandment of God. The Prophet Jeremiah warned against the sinfulness of those who “used” The Name (Jeremiah 23;16-40) “using” The Name to further their own cause, etc or to legitimise their own vision.
There’s Power in The Name, what does that actually mean, it’s authority … “open up in the name of the Law/Lord”
In My Name … ‘gathered’ … Matthew 18;20
In My Name … ‘lay hands on the sick and cast out devils’ Mark 16; 17
Ask in My Name … John 14;13
No other Name … Acts 4; 3-31 Redemption healing, miracles
It’s not the fetish of a Name, a religious exercise, it is The Power of the One who bears The Name, and his designated authority. We are “the called” and chosen and sent to declare the power of His Name.
The glib use of His Name is irreverent, and dangerous, remember the sons of Sceva Acts 19;13. I don’t think they were necessarily seeking to be deceptive but they were seeking to “in His Name” bring deliverance but without His designated authority, without true conversion, merely being impressed by the Apostles and challenged by the “power” they demonstrated and sincerely wanting to see miraculous results where their religion was a lifeless husk.
Representing the Lord is not a game … the Name of Jesus is not a religious formula to be exercised by anyone, irrespective of the condition of the heart! It is the Authority of the Message, in the authority of the one who bears that Name.
Are you convinced of the power of the Name? … if so, you’ll reverence The Name … prize The Name … exercise the Name with understanding and faith and authority.
